Recognition for Bill McDonald, Retirement for Bruce Main

We have two items from the Zone 4 executive to report, one happy, the other bittersweet.

January 2024

The first is recognition for longtime director Bill McDonald. Bill has been competing in our amateur and senior events for some five decades, and early in this century moved into an administrative role as a director. For the past several years he’s been running our annual Amateur championship, and three years ago spearheaded the founding of our new Mid-Amateur championship. For his dedicated service, he was recently awarded a Volunteer Recognition Award by BC Golf. Congrats, Bill!

Our congratulations also go out to Bruce Main, even if our feelings are significantly more mixed.

Recently, after a quarter century of dedicated service, Bruce announced that he planned to retire as a Zone 4 director

Bruce joined us in 2000, and ran our junior program for eight years, then moved on to the senior chair for another eight years. During that time he also helped compile our roster book. Since 2017, he’s been running our annual Tournament of Champions, in addition to lots of other duties. “I always enjoy meeting the Juniors at events that many still play in,” he says.

Bruce is handing over the Tournament of Champions to Sean Crowther, but promises to help out where needed, while continuing to show up at many of our events, so please feel free to extend your thanks the next time you see him!
